Diablo 3 Consumables Timeline
You may probably have forgotten by now but Diablo 1 featured unlimited amount of ‘arrows’ and ‘bolts’ which were analogous to Diablo 3’s consumables. Fast forward to Diablo 2 in and its subsequent expansion packs, bows and arrows had to be laboriously collected and replenished. Fans were delighted when Blizzard announced that Diablo 3 Consumables would consist of three types- Potions, Scrolls, and Tomes. Diablo 3 follows the ‘collect and replenish’ pattern of D2 albeit offering much more variety of consumable items. The limited number of Diablo 3 Consumables adds realism to the game, making it much harder especially in situations like boss fights.
Meet the Diablo 3 Consumables!
In Diablo 3, consumables are items which a player can consume to gain certain benefits like health, power, revealing magical properties of an object, converting an object into gold and many others. Although almost all Diablo 3 players are well acquainted with the idea of collecting items to attain temporary powers, the word ‘Consumables’ is rarely referenced. The three types of consumable items are Potions, Scrolls and Tomes.
Potions – Diablo 3 has ten types of health potions. They instantly restore 100-3500 lives and are available at all levels. You can stack a maximum of 100 health potions of any given type. In addition to ten health potions, there is one power potion which increases critical hit chance to 100% for the 30 seconds following the consumption of the potion. Power potion is available at the first level itself and a maximum of 5 power potions can be stacked by a player.
Scrolls- Diablo 3 has five types of scrolls. Each scroll is a roll of velum (sheep skin) with powerful words written on it. Consuming a scroll will bestows upon the player a non-combative effect like summoning help to collect nearby gold and transmuting properties of a magic/rare/legendary items into completely different set of properties. These can be particularly helpful in collecting gold and using items. Different scrolls work at different levels and have a maximum stack limit of only 20.
Tomes -A new addition to Diablo, tomes are books of training for artisans. When a player takes a Tome of Training to an Artisan (Mystic, Blacksmith or Jeweler), the latter attains greater powers of craftsmanship. The Tome of Training is fragmented into 5 ‘Pages of Training’ and a player must collect all 5 of these to create the Tome of Training.
Although the plot is the same but Blizzard has made Diablo 3 very different from D2. Diablo 3 consumables is an essential part of the game and cannot be taken lightly.
